Local songbird Andrea “It’s Anny” Fortuin spreads her wings after the successful collaboration with rapper Early B.

Talented Helderberg teen songbird Andrea “It’s Anny” Fortuin revels in music-making success after teaming up with beloved rap artist Early B for the banging hit single, “Forever or Never”, which has listeners pumping up the volume and grooving to the beat.

The vibing love song was released off the Ghoema award winner’s 2021 album, Funky Kaans, last February and later saw the Somerset West songstress debut in the music video which was filmed in his home-town of Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth).

It features Fortuin and the versatile rapper as two young school friends, who fall in love, grow apart as they get older and eventually find their way back to each other due to their strong bond. The fresh tune, which allows both artists to shine in their own right, has been praised as one of the most timeless songs and celebrates having reached platinum status with over one million views.

“I’m honoured to have been a part of this project with Early B. It was truly amazing to see the positive response from all the supporters of ‘Forever or Never’,” said Fortuin.

The 19-year-old shared embarking on the successful collaboration after meeting the rapper, who quickly worked his way to becoming a household name, at her show in 2020 and discussing the possibility which materialised last year. Fortuin recalled the production process, from recording to shooting the music video, as probably one of the easiest she has done.

“The song was recorded quickly, between 30 and 49 minutes. The music video literally took two days. I thought it was going to take longer, but Early B and his team of professionals made me feel really comfortable and at ease, which made the process really fun and quick. Since the music video was shot in PE, I also got to see where Early B grew up and meet all his family and friends,” she related.

Asked what working with one of SA’s hottest Afrikaans rappers is like, Fortuin responded: “He’s extremely talented and super down to earth, making me feel really comfortable doing my debut music video.”

DistrictMail & Helderberg Gazette last checked in with Fortuin before staging her debut musical production, The Anny Show, in November 2018 (“For local teenager singing means life!” 28 August 2018), while celebrating the success of her first single, Unstoppable released in November 2019 (“Young songstress is on cloud 9,” 19 May 2020). For those who may not know, Fortuin discovered her vocal ability at the tender age of five, when she used to sing along to Whitney Houston classics, while standing in front of the mirror and annoying family members with her endless singing.

She was propelled to fame through Facebook video posts of truly moving renditions of cover songs by world-renowned music artists.

Since the collaboration the vocalist, who possesses the remarkable ability to belt out such powerful notes that they cause goosebumps, has been hitting the road, taking to the stage and delivering mesmerising performances in various corners of the province. “I’ve been doing lots of shows, I am extremely blessed and booked,” added Fortuin, who will be hitting the studio to record another single soon.

In the meantime, local fans can experience her in action at renowned saxophonist Don Vino’s sold-out Saxy Vibes 4.0 show to be staged at the Grand Arena at GrandWest on Saturday 27 August; and Sybil’s Soul Sisters 2022 musical delight and the Karin Kortje Foundation’s Overberg’s Got Talent: The Festival show on Saturday 24 September.

She extended the following message to the local community: “Thank you for always supporting me and loving me for who I am, if it was’nt for you all, I wouldn’t be able to share my talent. Much love!”
