Dancers of the Gloria Botha School, from left, Charlize Riffel, Charnine Geldenhuys, Vanito Kerchoff, Anja Basson, Andrea Simmonds and Danelle Lee, will share their passion for dance and music at the fundraiser.

Sonia Cabano, well known for her TV programme Pampoen tot Perlemoen, will inspire locals with her passion for food at a special fundraising event presented by the Gloria Botha School for Intellectually Challenged Children in Somerset West.

Cabano will demonstrate her approach to cooking. “My approach is to use fresh, seasonal and local, ethically produced and organic products where possible,” she says. “Use the best ingredients you can afford, and do as little as possible to them. Food should taste of itself and offer a feast to the senses.”

The Gloria Botha School caters for children with Down’s Syndrome and other intellectual handicaps.

Says principal Isabel Fourie: “There’s a major need for schools such as this and, despite the fact that we are registered as an independent school with the provincial education department, we receive a minimum of government support.

“Fundraisers such as these are vital in enabling us to address growing needs for educational support.”

The event will be held at Helderberg Gemeente, 82 Firmount Road, Somerset West on Saturday 4 June from 10:00 until noon.

Tickets cost R100. To reserve your seat, phone 021 801 2184 or send an email to gloriabothaskool@gmail.com.
