September is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month and Livewell Care in Somerset West is hosting a seminar in partnership with Association for Dementia and Alzheimer’s of South Africa (ADASA) on Saturday 14 September, to share valuable information on various aspects of Dementia.

Family members, friends, carers, nursing staff and other role-players who are involved with people living with dementia are welcome to attend the event.

Proceeds of the seminar will go towards ADASA to ensure sustainability, provide guidance and support to families with people living with dementia.

The programme entails:

  • Arrival and registration from 08:30 to 09:00; welcome by ADASA regional manager sister Madelein Duvenhage at 08:55;
  • Session 1: Dementia, diagnosis and medical treatment options – Dr Deon Greyling, physician, at 09:00;
  • Session 2: Caring for the patients and the carers – neuropsychologist Arya Rabbipal at 10:00; tea break at 11:00;
  • Session 3: Legal matters, curatorship, and so forth – lawyer Andries Havenga, at 11:30;
  • Session 4: Meaningful engagement in Dementia – Occupational therapist Lou-Ann van Heerden at 12:30; closing at 13:30.
