The Ndiza Gallery, located at Krystal Beach Hotel in Gordon’s Bay, presented the launch of First Brush, a solo exhibition by artist Andy Louw, on Saturday 7 February.

Showing their support at the exhibition (from left) were Dianna Lombard, Petra Humm and Pieter Jones.

The exhibition challenges the notion that creativity belongs only to the young or the formally trained.

Rennie Gelderbloem, Benita Crouse and Elizabeth du Toit were all smiles as they marvelled at the artwork on display.

It features a collection of bold, intuitive paintings that serve as proof that invention can thrive entirely outside of traditional instruction.

Antoinette James, John Perreira and Kathleen James enjoyed a browse through the creative work.

Louw has turned to painting without the weight of formal training, resulting in what critics describe as an uninhibited engagement with colour and shape. His canvases are characterised by elemental and striking colours that fill the frame, and compositions that display a sophisticated balance, belying the artist’s lack of a formal background.

Taryn and Mark Flee were eager to see the First Brush.

The “First Brush” in these works is not tentative but fearless, illustrating that creativity is truly timeless.

The exhibition, which will be on display until Tuesday 10 March, highlights how creativity can flourish at any stage of someone’s life, and so offering an inspiring look at Louw’s personal artistic journey.

Ria Prior with her daughter Sarah Prior-Lodewyk enjoyed a glass of bubbly while viewing the artistry.
