Entries for the popular Grabouw Weekend Warrior fundraiser, set to be held in the picturesque town on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 April, are now open.
The event, sponsored by, Tru-Cape Fruit Marketing, is scheduled to be held in April to take full advantage of the peak apple season, so many of the orchards in the apple valley will still be laden with fruit while the mountain bikers explore the area. As it did last year, this family-centred event, which also invites people to camp in supplied three-man tents, will again raise funds for Hoërskool Grabouw, a beneficiary of Tru-Cape’s events in the area over many years.
Tru-Cape Marketing director Conrad Fick is a lifelong Grabouw resident and an alumnus of the school. “Tru-Cape supports events that are in our grower community, which focus on the health of the whole family and benefits the community. Monies from this event will go towards a new classroom for Grade 4 learners at Hoërskool Grabouw,” he pointed out.
The event venue will again be the Grabouw Country Club, but riders will also explore the surrounding mountains, nearby wine and fruit farms, and the local dam during the 10 km, 28 km and 44 km routes on offer.
It promises a be a great ride and time spent with family, especially for those camping in tents provided by Red Cherry Events. “This is an event focused on the whole family,” said organiser Shaun Glover of Red Cherry Events.
Adult entry costs R850, with options to add tented accommodation, while children under 14 pay R350 each. Day rider tickets for either days are R450 each. Entries will be permitted on the day, but will carry R100 per entry premium.
Glover added the camp village includes a comfy chill zone, live music, hot showers, flush toilets and many food options, while the children’s play area includes a jumping castle.
