The beautiful False Bay 50 km Road Race, hosted by Strand Athletics Club (SAC) with assistance of Hangklip Athletics Club, is back this Sunday (22 May).

The iconic point-to-point race will take place from Kleinmond to Gordon’s Bay along the scenic coastal R44. Runners will start at the Jukskei Club in Kleinmond at 06:30 and finish at Gordon’s Bay Primary School.

The event aims to be a community success and hopefully become a celebrated annual event. Said Wanda Hohenstein of HML Transport Consultants: “Community involvement, support and upliftment have always been an integral part of the values of HML Transport Consultants. As a business long routed in the Helderberg, we are passionate about supporting local businesses, clubs and organisations that share our drive to bring about positive change. Gordon’s Bay Outreach and The Ark City of Refuge are some of these organisations.

“Having quite a number of employees that are members of the SAC, including our own CEO, we are inspired by the inclusivity of the club and the healthy lifestyle promoted by its members. We are therefore proud to be associated with the SAC and the False Bay 50 initiative, and we’re happy to work together to contribute to its success.”

As part of the race’s community health upliftment initiative, the host is endorsing Vitanova in its drive to recruit tissue and organ donors. Entrants and the broader community are encouraged to register as donors at vitanova.org.za at no cost.

In a bid to reduce plastic waste and litter, Afrihost has sponsored collapsible silicone cups for each runner.

The event will see the partial road closure of the R44 from Rooi Els to Gordon’s Bay from 06:30 to 13:00, to ensure the safety of runners, marshals and hydration station volunteers.

Entries for the race closed on Sunday 15 May.
