The annual Youth Day Programme, hosted by Serving Our Underprivileged People (SOUP) and the Boland Islamic Council Women’s League (BICWL), was a resounding success.

Held at Dr GJ Joubert Primary School in Strand on Saturday 20 June, the event brought together youth from Atlantis, Paarl, Stellenbosch, Strand, Macassar, Sandvlei, Eerste River and Blackheath under the theme “Healthy Bodies, Strong Minds, Peaceful Souls”.

The programme aimed to educate, empower and motivate young people while promoting healthy lifestyles, leadership, teamwork, and community involvement. The day featured interactive activities such as debates, Kahoot quizzes, rugby, netball, and team-building exercises, fostering critical thinking, healthy competition, and meaningful interaction among participants.

A highlight of the event was ER24’s participation, where representatives shared valuable insights on emergency care, safety awareness and healthy living. Practical demonstrations captivated the audience, equipping them with essential life-saving knowledge.

Health awareness was another key focus. Jenny de Oliveira and Pauline Basera from CHECK/KNOW/PREVENT delivered an engaging presentation on cancer awareness, early detection, and the importance of healthy lifestyle choices. Their session empowered the youth with knowledge to positively impact their future.

Aneesa Theron inspired attendees with her powerful message of perseverance and hope, encouraging young people not to let their circumstances define their future. Her testimony reminded participants that determination and focus can lead to success, no matter the challenges.

The organisers expressed heartfelt gratitude to the school for providing the venue, creating a welcoming environment for all attendees.

Special thanks were also extended to Food Planet for sponsoring lunch for participants, speakers, coordinators and volunteers.

The success of the programme was made possible by the dedication of the executive committee members of SOUP and BICWL, whose hard work ensured a memorable and impactful event.
