Waldorf education is a schooling system that chooses as its prime focus preparing the student for life.
The curriculum mirrors the inner development of the growing child, follows the developmental stages of childhood and seeks to give the child experiences that are relevant and satisfying.
The Stellenbosch Waldorf School offers a playgroup, kindergarten, primary school and high school for children aged 3 to 18.
The Waldorf Kindergarten environment enables children to develop healthy bodies and wills, engaging their natural desire to move, explore and “do”. Here, the aim is to surround the children with beauty, truth and goodness. Learning is promoted through the hands and engages with the child’s will.
Out of the belief that children must have trust in the world as a foundation for healthy future development, the Waldorf teacher strives in the early years to be a model worthy of imitation and to share all that is good in the world with the students.
During the seven years of primary school, learning is experienced through the heart. Lesson content is enlivened by story, colour, movement and form.
Here, the main lesson is key to the rhythm of each day. Children are guided by the same teacher, known as their class teacher, who supports the basis of their primary learning.
During the high school years, deliberation and thinking comes to the fore, and learning is driven by the head. Here, strengthening of the intellect and critical thinking are key areas of focus. The class teacher gives way for specialist teachers who lead students through a rich selection of main and running lessons.
The Stellenbosch Waldorf School offers the National Senior Certificate (NSC) as the school leaving certificate. Enrolments are open throughout the year.
