Book lovers in Somerset West were treated to a diabetes roadshow hosted by an authors of a book centred on diabetes.
On 15 September Vickie de Beer, co-author of The Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Handbook, held a discussion at Somerset Mall in front of Wordsworth Books.
The qualified chef, who has a son with diabetes, held a food demonstration, and she spoke of how one can control diabetes through a low-carb diet.
De Beer and Kate Megaw, who is a nutritionist, were both present at these roadshows, which took place in Pretoria and Cape Town, although only De Beer attended the roadshow in Somerset West.
She shared information about diabetes as it appears in the Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Handbook, which includes expert advice from esteemed endocrinologist Prof David Segal.
At this roadshow De Beer also shared, and demonstrated, some of the delicious low-carb recipes at the show, and some of these recipes also made it into the book.
Libby Doyle, co-founder, publisher and creative director of Quivertree Publications, confirmed more than 40 000 copies of The Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Handbook had sold worldwide and was proving an invaluable resource for anyone with diabetes.
“This groundbreaking book is your road map to understanding, managing and ultimately conquering diabetes,” she said. “After eight years the content has been updated and improved to include all the latest information on diabetes management as well as being a step-by-step guide to living with diabetes successfully on a daily basis.”
