Claudi and Kaela Nel, dynamic dancing sisters from Curro Somerset West, excelled in a regional and national dancing competition hosted during the last school holidays.
For ballet, Grade 2 learner Claudi placed second with her regional and national solo performance, first in the regional group performance and first for national group performance for dancers aged seven and eight.
In the modern dancing category she placed first in the regional lyrical solo event and second in the same category nationally. She also won gold for modern dance in the nine- to 10-year-old age group on a regional level and her group was crowned overall national champions.
Grade 1 learner Kaela claimed gold in ballet in the both the regional and national competition for own choice classical solo, as well as gold for regional trio category for dancers in the nine- to 10-year-old age group. She was also part of the group of ballerinas who claimed gold in the nine- to 10-year age group regionally, as well as a bronze medal in the national competition in the same category.
Kaela also placed first for ballet repertoire for dancers aged 12 and under nationally, and second in the same category on a regional level. In the regional modern dancing category, she won gold in the jazz solo category and placed second in both the lyrical solo and contemporary solo category.
On a national level, she placed first for solo acrobatics and was part of the group which placed second in the group jazz performance in the 11- to 12-year-old category.
Kaela also competed in the South African International Ballet Competition from Monday 18 to Saturday 23 October.
