A 50-year-old man appeared in the Somerset West Magistrates’ Court on Monday (23 June) on a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm after he allegedly shot his employee with a paintball gun. According to a police report, the incident occurred at a business in Stuart Close, Somerset West on Friday 13 June at 08:00. An employee at the business alleges he was working in the workshop when he was approached by the owner, who apparently informed him that he damaged a vehicle and the repairs would be deducted from his salary. The worker stated that his employer left the workspace, but returned to throw a cup at him, but he missed the target. The employee further alleges the owner left for a second time but returned with a paintball gun and opened fire on the worker. The owner allegedly hit his employee, which resulted in him sustaining injuries to his elbow, head and back. The employee claims he ran away, before reporting the matter to the police, which led tothe man’s arrest. Somerset West police are continuing to investigate the matter.
Three suspects appeared in Somerset West Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday (18 June) for allegedly violating the Criminal Matters Amendment Act 18 of 2015. They are accused of attempted theft of copper cables.
The accused, aged 20, 26 and 33, are being linked to attempting to steal copper from a street light pole which incurred damages of approximately R17 000. Somerset West police believe the security company Secure Rite was involved in tracing and positively identifying the suspects which led to their arrest.
An accident report was compiled by Somerset West police following a collision that occurred in the prescinct on Saturday 14 June. It is believed the incident left a driver and the passengers seriously injured. According to police, the accident involved two vehicles and happened at 21:49 at the bridge on the intersection of the R44 and Broadway Boulevard in Somerset West. Both vehicles were carrying passengers, but only one of the drivers and their passenger were injured.
The injured persons had to be transported to hospital by ambulance.
