๏€ผA 36-year-old man will soon appear in the Somerset West Magistrates’ Court on charges of housebreaking and theft which occurred on Tuesday 8 July. According to a police reported, the complainant was alerted to the incident after receiving several notifications on her cellphone just after 07:00 on 8 July. On investigation in her home, she went looking for her wallet and discovered her and her domestic worker’s handbags were missing.

The homeowner reviewed her home-surveillance video footage and saw a man had entered her home. She reported the incident to Somerset West police, who later arrested a suspect after positively linking him to the burglary.

๏€ผSomerset West police arrested two suspects in connection with a jamming device on Wednesday 9 July. According to police, the two male suspects, aged 35 and 38, were arrested after an eyewitness spotted them in a grey BMW and alerted officers.

The eyewitness apparently saw the suspects repeatedly pressing a remote device near vehicles parked close to Somerset Mall. When police officers responded, they found the suspects in possession of a jamming device. Colonel Jacolize Fleischmann, Somerset West police station commander, commended the police and civilian partnership that led to the arrest of the two suspects.

๏€ผSomerset West police arrested 10 people for possession of illegal drugs during an operation last week. The operation began in Sir Lowry’s Pass on Wednesday 9 July, where officers on patrol duty arrested a 41-year-old man around 20:00. He was found in possession of several Mandrax tablets and two small bags of tik. Around 22:00, officers arrested a 35-year-old man who was found in possession of 85 Mandrax tablets and cash in an area known as “Die Mall se bos” along the N2 highway in Somerset West. The following day, Thursday 10 July, about 20:00, officers arrested a 29-year-old woman near De Beers Road in Somerset West for the possession of 14 bags of tik and Mandrax tablets.

All suspects will appear in the Somerset West Magistrates’ Court on charges of possession of illegal drugs.

๏€ผSomerset West police arrested a 16-year-old on Thursday 10 July for a robbery committed in Sir Lowry’s Pass.

According to a police report, the victim was walking down October Street when he was approached by the minor armed with a panga. The suspect threatened the victim and robbed him of his cellphone.

The incident was reported to police and officers arrested the teen around 09:00 on 10 July. He faces a charge of armed robbery.
