In a true show of determination and endurance two Helderberg firefighters successfully completed Sunday’s (16 April) Two Oceans Half-marathon kitted out in their firefighting gear in aid of the City of Cape Town’s firefighting partners Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS). The duo, Jermaine Carelse and Renaldo Duncan, raced against the clock and proved who’s boss by darting across the finish-line in 02:41:58 – just one minute and 58 seconds over the finishing time they had their sights set on. However, apart from slightly missing their target in a second shot at the iconic marathon, the pair did manage to raise about R30 000 in funds for VWS with their participation which left them all smiles on medalling. Turn to page 15 for more of the running action featuring other locals who toughed out the gruelling road race.
