Council probes sinkhole in Beach Road

An sinkhole along Beach Road in Strand, directly opposite the swimming pool, occurred about three weeks ago and was dug up by municipal workers during the repairs, resulting in a large hole being opened up. Since then it appears that very little to no work has been conducted on site, as the hole remains mostly open and a portion of Beach Road is closed. According to Ward 83 Councillor Carl Punt, teams are investigating the cause of the sinkhole and also whether there is damage to the infrastructure underground. No date was given as to when the hole will be closed and the road re-opened.Photo: Yaseen Gaffar
