Educational fun was the order of the day for little ones who were engaged in the Cotlands Western Cape Toy Library annual World Play Day celebrations, which were held in Macassar last Wednesday (24 May). The non-profit organisation focused on play-based learning for children from birth to six years of age by means of toy libraries and early learning playgroups, in collaboration with the community health organisation Kheth’Impilo organised a day filled with educational playtime fun. The event themed “Play the Hero” saw around 400 children between the ages of three and five years, 40 practitioners and various community spokespeople and leaders rub shoulders with the real-life heroes of Macassar – dutiful policemen, firemen and disaster risk management representatives. “It was a fantastic opportunity for our children to interact with these important role players and learn about the invaluable services they provide,” stated Cotlands in Facebook post. “Throughout the day we set up various play activities that engaged the children’s imagination and creativity.
