Somerset West police compiled two accident reports following two separate collisions.
The first occurred on Thursday 1 December, when a police truck transporting inmates to court was involved in a collision with a motor vehicle in Caledon Street around 15:00.
Sergeant Suzan Jantjies, spokesperson for the Somerset West police, said an eyewitness claimed the truck was exiting the parking area with the intent of turning left into Caledon Street when the accident occurred. The truck collided with a silver Mercedes Benz heading towards the Somerset West Magistrates’ Court. “No serious injuries were reported,” said Jantjies. “Three prisoners sustained minor injuries and were transported to hospital for medical attention. They were released and taken back to the correctional facility later the same day.”
The collision was followed by another at the Victoria Street/N2 intersection on Friday 2 December. “It is believed the driver of a black Volkswagen Polo was driving from Victoria Street towards Victoria Park, proceeding through the intersection at the green light. While making his way through, a white Volkswagen Polo turned right on the N2 and the vehicles collided. No serious injuries were reported.”
