Veteran of Helderberg Cricket Club, Shane Fredericks delivers a splendid spinner in their First Division D encounter against Seacrest CC this past Saturday (20 January).

Helderberg Cricket Club (HCC) recorded a second consecutive loss since the restart of the season when they went down to Seacrest CC in a First Division D clash played at Helderzicht Sports Grounds on Saturday (20 January).

Seacrest took to the crease first and kept the scoreboard ticking despite losing wickets at regular intervals.

Shane Fredericks (4-44), Dexter Hindley (36-1) and Gary-Jon Sylvester (47-1) were the pick of the bowlers for HCC and restricted their opponents to a respectable score of 232/8.

At the change of innings Helderberg kept their composure and seemed well on their way to the target, but wickets fell consistently and eventually HCC ended their innings with 215 all-out – a painstaking 17 runs short of victory.

Chalynn Hess (45), Gary-Jon Sylvester (34) and Gregan Mouers (24) were the top scorers.

This weekend HCC will play away to Pollsmoor CC.

In First Division A, Hottentots-Holland Cricket Club (HHCC) hosted Northerns Goodwood CC at the Navy Sports Ground.

HHCC lost the toss and were put into the field on a scorchingly hot day. Northerns Goodwood raced to a good start after poor fielding from HHCC, which included four dropped catches in the first 10 overs. HHCC brought it back in the middle overs; however, NGCC still reached a very good score of 263 all out. Shameel Abels (3-40), Rasool Thomas (2-47) and Yaasien Railoun (2-28) were the pick of the bowlers.

In the batting department HHCC started well being 60-1. However they lost wickets at regular intervals including three run-outs in the middle overs, which left the club in despair. HHCC eventually finished on 221-9 in their 50 overs, 42 runs short of victory. Abdul-Aziz Temoor (52) was once again the top scorer along with Naeem Rhoda (38) and Waleed Smith (26). HHCC travels to The Mother City to face UCT this Saturday.
