Last Thursday (4 April), marked a momentous occasion at Christmas Tinto Primary School as 31 disadvantaged learners were afforded the precious gift of improved eyesight.

This initiative involved the fitting of prescription glasses for learners, who had previously undergone comprehensive eye tests conducted through Vision 4 Change in partnership with Stefanutti Stocks and Helderberg Construction Forum at the Nomzamo primary school.

“We handed spectacles to 31 pupils from Grade RR to 7,” said Justice Mcaphukiso, portfolio chairperson for Corporate Social Investment at Helderberg Construction Forum. “Handing the spectacles over was surreal. We always wanted to do something like this, and all the partners came on board.”

Ward 85 councillor Chantal Cerfontein considers forming part of the initiative, which granted her the opportunity to spend time with the beneficiaries, as an honour.

She said the gift of brand-new spectacles specifically suited to each beneficiary would not only help improve their eyesight but their schoolwork too. “They will be able to see what the teacher writes on the blackboard, take more notes and also stay focused in school,” Cerfontein elaborated. “Being able to help them get their vision back makes a big difference in their lives for now they will be able to go through life not missing a thing.”
