Armed robbers pounced on Vodacom at Sitari Village shopping centre at the weekend.

According to Macassar police spokesperson Sergeant Desire Adendolf, five suspects targeted the local branch of the mobile communications company around 12:30 on Saturday (27 August).

“Upon entering the premises, one of five men believed to be involved in the incident, revealed a firearm concealed under his clothes to three employees (victims),” she said.

The three victims were unharmed, but a total of 50 cellphones, excluding three taken from the employees, were taken as loot.

“The 50 cellphones have not been added to the company’s data-basis,” said Adendolf.

The suspects remain at large after allegedly fleeing the scene in a white Chevrolet Aveo.

“The value of the cellphones is still unknown. No shots were fired and no-one was injured,” confirmed Adendolf.

Police are investigating a case of business robbery and are calling on the public’s assistance which could help with tracking down and apprehending the suspects.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Jonathan Delport on 021 857 7100.
