No occupants were injured when a car burst into flames in Main Road, Somerset West last Thursday morning (11 May). According to Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson for the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service, firefighters responded to the vehicle inferno opposite the Bossa family restaurant around 12:50. “The firefighting crew from Somerset West Fire Station was on the scene quickly and restricted the fire to the engine compartment of the Volkswagen vehicle. Its occupants initially used a dry chemical powder fire extinguisher to try and douse the blaze. However, on the firefighters’ arrival the engine compartment was still smouldering. The fire was extinguished at 13:10. Nobody was injured,” said Carelse.
