Students from Cape Town have the opportunity to apply for financial support, as the City of Cape Town’s Training and Development Department opens its bursary applications.
The bursaries are available to students who are currently registered at accredited institutions in South Africa. It covers registration, tuition and examination fees, as well as capped allowances for study-aid, transport and meals. Applications close on Friday 10 October.
“The City is always on the lookout for new talent and I am pleased to extend an invitation to all Cape Town-based candidates who are currently studying at a tertiary institution or who have been accepted at one,” said Theresa Uys, Mayoral Committee member for Corporate Services.
“Apply now! Bursary applications will be assessed on academic merit as well as against the City’s scarce skills list of needs. The bursaries come with a year-for-a-year service obligation period, which will ensure graduates also gain hands-on work experience once they have graduated.”
Applications can download the application form at from the City’s website or visit a City library or walk-in centre in Strand, Bellville, Brackenfell, Cape Town, Parow or Plumstead to get an application form.
APPLICATION CRITERIA
To be eligible for a bursary, students must provide a copy of their Grade 12 final or mid-year results and have obtained an average of 65% and above; provide a copy of their latest tertiary academic transcript; provide a certified copy of their identity document (not older than three months); and be a South African citizen residing in Cape Town.
Busaries are offered to anyone who is not an employee of the City; is not in possession of any other form of financial assistance; is registered for full-time study at an accredited tertiary institution in SA; and is studying towards an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in one of the approved City scarce skills fields of study.
Where a proven need exists, the City will cover a capped residence allowance subject to the residence being registered on the City vendor database.
NO LATE APPLICATIONS
Late applications will not be considered and applications received will not be acknowledged in writing and copies of supporting documents will not be returned. If a response is not received from the City by 15 January 2026, the application was unsuccessful.
Completed forms and supporting documentation must be submitted electronically or at any walk-in centre by 10 October.
