We kindly request the community to work with us by being our eyes and ears and to protect school buildings against any vandalism and theft.

While others were dedicating their 67 minutes to goodwill last Monday (18 July), lurking burglars took the opportunity to pounce on two local primary schools.

According to Colonel Xolani Williams, Lwandle Police Station Commander, the suspects who targeted Christmas Tinto and Nomzamo primary schools for looting on Mandela Day are still being sought.

“At Christmas Tinto Primary School the suspects made off with aluminium windows and cables, while at Nomzamo Primary School a section of the fencing was stolen,” he said.

Principal of Christmas Tinto Primary School Mpicothi Qantolo said this was not the first time the school was burgled, but it is one of the worst burglaries it has had to deal with. “Aluminium gutters of 12 classrooms were looted, the electrical wires of seven classrooms stripped and two burglar bars brazenly taken,” he enumerated.

“This, apart from the six aluminium windows and 188 metres of fencing stolen.”

Police detectives are requesting the assistance of the public in locating and apprehending suspects who were involved in business burglary incidents that had occurred on the same night.

“We kindly request the community to work with us by being our eyes and ears and to protect school buildings against any vandalism and theft,” added Williams.

The police further appealed to the community not to buy stolen property from anyone.

They warned that anyone found with stolen property would be arrested and prosecuted. .
