Sebastian Smit, a Grade 7 learner at Reddam House Somerset, participated in the Western Cape Modern Pentathlon Championships at Paul Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch last month. A modern pentathlon comprises legs of swimming, fencing, show jumping, running and shooting, and offers the ultimate test of an athlete’s fitness, courage and skill. During the competition, Sebastian won a bronze medal in the boys under-15 division and was selected to the Western Cape team to participate at the South African Modern Pentathlon Championships at Sentraal High School in Bloemfontein earlier this month. Unfortunately, he was not able to participate in this event as he had other commitments.
