Eleven learners of Parel Vallei High School wore the colours of Boland at the ASSA South African Mathematics Competition, which was previously known as the Inter-provincial Mathematics Olympiad.
The PV learners represented Boland in two categories: junior (Grade 8 and 9) and senior (Grade 10, 11 and 12). In each category 155 teams participated. The PV senior team members were Dajoon Kim, Benjamin Kleyn, Louis Cronje, Chaewon Lee and Eunwoo Jeong while the school’s junior team members were Ian Kleynhans, Jordan Downing, Daniel Lavies, Darius Pfaff, Chaeyoon Lee and Johann Malan.

After a break and discussion of team strategy, the second part of the competition takes place, comprising 10 difficult problems with team members working together and submitting one set of answers. When all the scores are in and results verified the rankings are announced.
Chaewon, Louis, Dajoon and Benjamin were part of the Boland A senior team that achieved an overall first place. In the junior category, Chaeyoon Lee, Darius Pfaff and Johann Malan represented PV in the Boland A junior team that claimed the overall second place.
Jordan, Ian and Daniel Lavies were part of the Boland B junior team and Eunwoo was part of the Boland B senior team.
