Natasja Colson with her trainer and son in law, Addi Mondo.

In a world often defined by limitations Natasja Colson has shattered expectations. At 50 this police captain has transformed her life from the depths of depression to the pinnacle of athletic achievement.

Her journey began in 2018, a year of upheaval following a divorce. Seeking an escape, Colson stumbled upon a bodybuilding competition. Inspired by the strength and determination on display, she decided to defy the odds and step onto the stage herself. With her son-in-law, Addi Mondo, a bodybuilder himself, as her coach, she embarked on an incredible transformation.

“I told Addi that I want to be on that stage,” said Colson.

Within four months the novice competitor stunned the judges by winning the masters category. It was a turning point. “It was a commitment, disciplined lifestyle and consistency,” she recalls. “I’d never lifted weights before, so I had to be humble and stick to my programme.”

Over the next few years Colson honed her craft, transitioning from bikini to figure competitions. The ultimate recognition came in September 2023 when she earned a coveted pro card from the UIBFF federations, qualifying with prestigious national colours.

Now, as a professional bodybuilder, Colson is setting her sights even higher. She’s currently in a bulking phase to prepare for her first pro show in 2025 and will compete in the Saudi Cup in Doha also next year. “I can’t believe it,” she says, reflecting on her journey. “From being down and depressed, I’m now in a new chapter of life. It’s a positive addiction.”

Colson was born in Kimberley where she completed her schooling and started a career in the police. She eventually left to work for a year in Iraq, where she was employed under an American contract, and on her return completed a degree in Real Estate before spending nine years as a property agent.

Eventually she returned to the police and worked in George and Worcester police stations before moving to Gordon’s Bay last year after taking up a position at Somerset West Police Station. “I think my background with the police helps me. I know I’m disciplined and I’m focused on sticking to the rules and focusing on the goal. It’s just been an incredible journey.”

Colson’s story is an inspiration to other women. She has used her platform to empower others, speaking at women’s functions and to police students about the benefits of bodybuilding. Her message is simple yet powerful: “It’s never too late to believe in yourself and take it day by day. If you can dream it, you can achieve it.”

With unwavering determination and the support of her husband and biggest supporter Grant Colson, daughter Chane and granddaughter Bellah, Natasja is poised to make her mark on the international stage.

As she prepares for the World Championships next year one thing is certain: this diamond is shining brighter than ever.
