Blaze at local police station doused in the nick of time

Firefighters were called to action after tyres were set alight in front of the Macassar Police Station on Monday night (15 May). According to Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson for the City of Cape Town’s fire and rescue services, firefighting crews responded to an emergency call of a building alight just before 21:00. “However, when Macassar firefighters arrived on scene they confirmed it to be burning tyres,” he said. “The blaze was extinguished shortly after 21:00 and no injuries were reported.”Photo: Jamey Gordon
