Young Bafana Soccer Academy’s (YB) top senior team will participate in the renowned ABC Motsepe League in the upcoming 2022-’23 season.

The league, previously known as the Vodacom League between 1998 and 2012, is the current second division in and overall third tier of South African football.

“During the years of dreaming up YB’s growth in the Helderberg, having one of our own professional teams has always been a goal,” the club said in a statement. “Finally, the day has come and we are so thankful for this opportunity to grow not only YB, but the game of soccer.”

The ABC Motsepe League features 144 teams in total, divided into nine divisions located within the nine geo-political provinces of South Africa.

To conclude the season, each divisional winner plays each other in a season’s closing competition. The winner of this cup gains promotion into SA’s first league.

“Our mission in this new addition is to provide young players from the Helderberg with an opportunity to showcase their talents at the highest possible level,” the statement further read.

“As this news was just received last week, we are working through our next steps. This includes finding head and assistant coaches, picking trial dates and receiving our fixtures for the upcoming season.”
