The Grade 12 swimmers Cara Kriek and Unakhu Mpiki were supported by teacher Anina Grobler with some laps.

Helderberg High School was a hive of excitement when it recently hosted its first event in lockdown Level 1, the 2021 Swimathon at the school’s swimming pool.

The annual event was cancelled last year as a result of Covid-19, but this year the school’s avid swimmers geared up to tackle each other in the water. All grades competed to see which grade could swim the most laps, with the enthusiastic Grade 8 learners taking the overall crown with 554 laps.

In the individual challenge, four learners managed to swim 100 or more laps. They are Erin Pasquallie (136), Jordan Hobbs (122), Shaquile Riberts (102) and Maya Ilgman (100).

Assisting with fundraising were the Fadia family with 112 laps and Kreft family with 102 laps.
