Hottentots Holland Cricket Club’s (HHCC) first team travelled to Kensington to face Kensington CC on Saturday 22 January.
HHCC lost the toss and were sent into bat first.
In scorching hot conditions, HHCC lost three early wickets and were reeling on 18-3. Waleed Smith and Yaseen Jakoet rebuilt the innings with a grinding 93-run partnership before Smith lost his wicket one run short of his fifty and was dismissed for 49.
Veteran Abdul Aziz Temoor joined Jakoet at the crease and the pair wreaked havoc as they destroyed the Kensington bowling attack. Jakoet batted his way to a memorable 100, smashing four sixes in one over while Temoor played an amazing supporting knock of 86* as HH ended on a mammoth 308-6.
In the bowling department it was spinner Shameel Abels who destroyed the Kensington batting lineup as he grabbed staggering figures of six wickets for 11 runs in eight overs and Kensington fell for 133 all out. This gave HHCC a resounding 175 run bonus point victory.
HHCC’s second team hosted St Augustines at the Navy Sports Ground in Gordon’s Bay. HHCC won the toss and batted first. The home side scored a reasonable 215-6 with Captain Irshaad Salie scoring a memorable 74. Salie was well supported by Mieftaah Oliver (52*) and Abdullah Arnold (32).
Saints came out all guns blazing blasting their way to a four wicket victory. Ibrahim Sha (two wickets) and Oliver (two wickets) were the pick of the bowlers as the second team lost their first game of the season.
HHCC’s third team is still looking for their first win. They travelled to Rosmead to face Primrose CC.
Primmies batted first and scored 152 in their 35 overs. Riyaad Oliver and Yusuf Stuart (two wickets each) were the pick of the bowlers. In the batting department Ebrahim Pedro carried his bat throughout the innings scoring an amazing 52 not out, and he was supported by Yaseen Smith (29) and Zakarieya Brinkhuis (15) as HH romped to a four wicket win.
