The City of Cape Town’s lifeguard recruitment process has started, and numerous positions are available to apply for by 1 July.
Lifeguards will be employed on a temporary contract from September 2022 to April 2023.
There are four categories of lifeguard, namely seasonal beach lifeguards, seasonal senior beach lifeguards, seasonal pool lifeguard and seasonal senior pool lifeguards. Apart from proven qualifications, applicants are required to have a clear criminal record, with no pending cases, and must be drug-free, and shortlisted candidates will have to pass a physical assessment.
Applicants for beach lifeguard positions must complete a 400 m swimming test in under eight minutes and various rescue and first-aid techniques, also a 100 m swimming test in under two minutes and techniques.
