All Saints Rugby Club continued their impressive run in Super League B, securing a hard-fought 41-32 victory against Scottsdene Central at Helderzicht Sports Ground on Saturday (21 June).
Despite a dominant start, the hosts were made to work hard for the win by a resilient visiting side. All Saints began the match like a house on fire, exploding out of the blocks to establish a commanding 17-0 lead within 15 minutes.
Their fluid ball movement and incisive attacks proved too much for Scottsdene to handle in the initial stages.
This early momentum carried them through to halftime, as they held a comfortable 31-3 advantage.
However, the second half saw a dramatic shift in momentum. Scottsdene launched a strong onslaught, seemingly catching the home team off guard. Olla Boys appeared to take their foot off the pedal, allowing the visitors to score five tries and secure a valuable bonus point.
Masterclass performance
The game became a much closer affair in the dying minutes, with the home crowd on the edge of their seats. Ultimately, All Saints managed to hold on for the victory, demonstrating their resolve under pressure.
The try scorers for All Saints were Kenneth Scheffers, Jade Rodericks, Clyde Damons, Byron Kock, Brandon Fila and Junaid Sylvester. Dylan Scholtz successfully converted four tries, and Rodericks added a crucial penalty, contributing significantly to the points tally.
Sylvester delivered a masterclass at scrumhalf, orchestrating attacks with precision, while Rodericks’ slicing runs consistently opened the defence.
The victory ensures All Saints remain at the summit of the log with 36 points, solidifying their position as title contenders.
In Super League A, both Helderberg and Durbell scored five tries at the Charles Morkel Stadium in Strand. The unbeaten visitors ultimately secured a 40-30 victory, largely thanks to the accurate boot of their fullback, Grant Hermanus, who cemented 15 points.
The match started with Michael Visser slotting a penalty for Berge in the third minute. Durbell quickly took control, scoring three tries within 20 minutes, along with a conversion and two penalties (3-23).
In the 25th minute, Michael Visser made a powerful break, offloading to full-back Jayden Daniels, who in turn sent right-wing Lynn-Jay Hendricks over in the corner (8-23). After the restart kick, Durbell crossed over for their fourth try, which was also converted (8-30).
A little too late
Just before half-time, inside centre Quinn Visser broke the line and offloaded to older brother Michael to finish, reducing the deficit to 13-30.
Upon the resumption of play, Durbell scored their fifth try, with Hermanus converting once more (13-37).
At this point, Helderberg ignited, but their tries came somewhat late. First, hooker Mauritz Swart crashed over the line, followed by replacement lock Chrisjan van Zanten, but both conversions were unsuccessful (23-37). Durbell added another penalty (23-40).
In the dying moments, Hendricks dotted down in the corner for his second try and Helderberg’s fifth. Michael Visser’s conversion took the final score to 30-40, ensuring Durbell’s unbeaten streak continues.
