The Manser family has refitted a Miura 31-foot sail boat with the intention to circumnavigate the globe.
With vast experience on the open ocean, local husband-and-wife and adventurer-duo, Riaan and Vasti Manser, will set sail from Cape Town in August and introduce their two young sons to their parents’ world of exploration.
Riaan is a globally acclaimed explorer with his journeys over the last two decades often mesmerizing to recount. Numerous and incredible world-first trips that make him arguably one of the greatest living explorers in history. Circumnavigating the entire continent of Africa by bicycle. Along with a circumnavigation of Madagascar journeys that stand today as only having been done by one person in history. A double kayak historic journey around the entire coastline of Iceland in 2011 followed these previous amazing feats.
Riaan then roped his advocate wife into his world of adventure and discovery. They were the first and only humans to row a boat from mainland Africa to North America. Continent to continent. Their finish line was the awe-inspiring backdrop of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty.
Evidently they had more ambition and decided to, after marrying in 2016, to row to Hawaii from San Francisco on a honeymoon adventure. It turned out to be the fastest-ever row in history for this route and a current Guinness world record.
Riaan then ran a national competition entitled “The Odyssey” to provide someone with an opportunity to row an ocean with him. His unlikely partner was Fanafikile Lepakha, a 30-year-old guy from land-locked Free State province who couldn’t swim. They successfully crossed the Atlantic Ocean in 45 days, rowing from Canary Islands to Barbados.
Riaan is an extremely popular public speaker as well as a best-selling author of four books. His latest is the children’s version of his original around Africa and around Madagascar books.
The Manser family implores locals to join them at the False Bay Yacht Club, Simon’s Town on Thursday 18 May at 10:00 as they unveil the Manser Muira and share in the joy of sailing once again.
Ahead of the big reveal the Mansers are inviting Helderbergers to an exclusive sneak peek at the Gordon’s Bay Yacht Club on Saturday (13 May) at 12:00.
