Two suspects were nabbed for illegal possession and transportation of abalone following a successful bust in Gordon’s Bay. The incident occurred on Monday 22 July when officers of the Law Enforcement Marine and Environmental Unit and the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries swooped on the suspects during a joint operation along the R44 coastal road. According to a report the officers pounced on a silver vehicle with the two male occupants around 22:00. On inspection they discovered several bags filled with fresh abalone in the vehicle. The discovery led to the immediate arrest of both suspects for illegal possession and transportation of abalone. Additionally, the vehicle used in the commission of the crime was impounded, further solidifying the operation’s success.
