Spencer King is the new vice-principal of SomerStrand College.
King started his BCom LLB degree studies at the University of Cape Town.
“My father always believed I could make loads of money with my strong verbal abilities and my passion to pursue what I believe in,” says King.
But as fate would have it, as a young student staying in the boarding school of a little prep school among the students, he realised his passion for education.
This made him change his studies to a post-graduate Diploma in Education.
His willpower to make a success out of a career in education allowed him to climb the ladder of tutelage fast. He was appointed senior deputy head of SACS and Rondebosch high schools.
King also ventured into the business world for a while, but again realised he would like to have a positive effect on young lives.
“The rustic environment of SomerStrand College forces one back to one’s roots – students are consistently busy with either the animals or the gardens, looking after their own environment and class,” he says.
King’s biggest goal for next year will be to expand the school’s character into the new FET phase, starting with Grade 10.
