With spiralling unemployment in the Helderberg region, new opportunities are coming up for youth in the area.
The Robert Sobukwe Nursing Academy will open its doors in Strand next month to give some hope for many interested in the health sector.
The Iqra Learning Centre in Hammond Street, Strand will be used as a college.
The Helderberg Youth Academy, in collaboration with the Robert Sobukwe Nursing Academy, will fast-track learning opportunities and skills programmes to address the needs of youth.
Wafeek Geldenhuys, managing director of the Robert Sobukwe Nursing Academy, and Shakoor Vallie of the Helderberg Youth Academy had serious deliberations on addressing unemployment in the area, and a collaborative agreement was reached on tackling this challenge.
The parties, which negotiated a long-term lease agreement with the Strand Moslem Council for the use of its property, are keen to reel in other organisations as partners to strengthen prospects for the success of this venture.
“We would like to establish affordable courses to empower the local community,” said Vallie.
Registration will take place at the Iqra Learning Centre from 09:00 to 13:00 on Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 July, and from Monday 25 to Thursday 28 July.
