Two pupils of Gordon’s Bay Primary School have been included in the under-14 Western Cape chess squad.

Friends Chloe Carew and Aamienaa Pathan will represent their province at the 2018 South African Junior Chess Championships (SAJCC), which will be held at the Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre in Boksburg in January.

The SAJCC consists of three events, namely the team event, the wild card event and the inter provincial event.

To be invited to participate in the 2018 SA Junior Closed Chess Championshipsm a player must participate in the team event of the SAJCC.

Players who place in the top 10 of their respective age groups on either the Grand Prix or South African Rating List will get an automatic invitation to the junior closed event.

All other players will have to participate in the Wild Card Event as well, where the top 10 places per age and gender group will then be invited to participate at the closed event next year.

The winners of the junior closed event will represent South Africa at various international events next year.
