The music department of Somerset House entered 100 items comprising soloists, duos, trios and ensembles in the Helderberg Eisteddfod. Eleven entries achieved Cum Laude awards, while 41 achieved Gold Plus (above 85%) and 32 Gold (above 80%).
There were also a number of category winners:
. The senior marimba band won the percussion section.
. Emma Steenkamp was a medal winner for her outstanding achievement in the junior piano section and was awarded the best achievement certificate for intermediate phase strings.
. Luke Steenkamp received the certificate for the best achievement in the junior phase strings.
. Emma and Luke Steenkamp won the best achievement in the intermediate phase string ensemble section for their duet.
. Talia Abelson received a certificate for the best achievement in the junior piano section (12-year-olds).
. Amber Mendes and Zach Crossley won the best achievement in the intermediate phase entertainment singing section for their duet.
. Esther Benson received a medal for outstanding achievement for her solo singing in the intermediate phase entertainment singing section.
. Lucas Ochsenbein won the best achievement in intermediate phase flute section.
A total of 81 artworks by Somerset House learners were entered into the Helderberg Eisteddfod, winning 21 Cum Laude, 25 Gold Plus, 10 Gold, 13 Silver Plus, 11 Silver awards and one bronze award.
Zachariah Brown achieved the top award for Grade R learners, while Andrew-James Cocks claimed the top award for Grade 3 learners.
During the Santam Art Competition, Grade 2 learner Amber Parker won her category with her entry, I Spy with My Little Eye something beginning with A for Adventure!
