The Grade 4 learners of Somerset College visited the Somerset West Village Garden to find out more about urban farming and its importance. The children learnt about seed growing, the importance of recycling and compost, as well as exploring the garden’s offerings and learning more about the plants. They also learned how to make their own compost and made their very own “seed bombs” to take home. The outing is related to the sustainable farming aspect which the class has explored in Esteam (entrepreneurship, science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) this term. Each child also took along a jar of peanut butter which was donated to the garden.
