SOMERSET WEST – Eight drama productions by learners of Parel Vallei High School have been entered into this year’s Aardklop Pronk Podium Competition, an outstanding achievement for the school’s Drama Department.

The one-man plays have provided five matrics and three Grade 11 learners with an opportunity to experience a drama season under lockdown, with new rules and conditions. All the productions have also been submitted to the online Montague Youth Arts Festival.

The plays entered into the competition are Industry with Angelique Filter, directed and written by Yanou Pienaar; Three Girls in the Chair with Memory Mahlangu, directed by Darryl Spijkers (head of PV Drama) and written by Spijkers and Bryoni Currin; Photograph with Dylan Janse van Rensburg, directed by Spijkers and written by Spijkers and Currin; The Withered with Nerise Malan, directed by Pienaar and written by Malan; Nog ’n Dag op Nuweland, with Reike Ferreira, written and directed by Spijkers; Meisie in die Sequins Rok with Anke Tough, directed by Spijkers and written by Anita Moller and Spijkers; Soetwater with Lienke Frylink, directed by Spijkers and written by Lily van Zyl; and Wentelkind with Juné Kruger, directed by Spijkers and written by Rozaan Vos.

The PV Drama Department hopes to bring the productions to life on stage once a local theatre is permitted to reopen, but it will be made available for streaming online.
