The athletics team of Parel Vallei High School will be among the country’s high school athletic elite to show their mettle at the national final of the Twizza Super School Series in Gauteng next February.

Organisers of the series announced the names of the 52 boys’ team, 50 girls’ teams and 46 mixed teams which have qualified for the 2022 national final on Saturday 19 February. Among these are PV’s girls’, boys’ and the school’s mixed team.

Launched in 2019, the series has very quickly become a highlight on the schools’ athletics calendar with one clear goal in mind: crowning South Africa’s best athletics school, which will take home bragging rights for the year.

“We are excited and proud to reveal the names of the schools that have qualified for the 2022 Twizza Super School Series National Final,” said Lance Coertzen, Twizza group marketing manager. “Both regional qualifiers exceeded our expectations, and we can’t wait for the action to recommence in February 2022. Best of luck to all the schools that will proceed to the national final.”

PV is the only school from the Helderberg to advance to the national final, while two Stellenbosch schools, Paul Roos Gymnasium and Hoër Meisieskool Bloemhof, are finalists in the girls’ and boys’ competitions, respectively.

The venue of the Twizza Super School Series National Final will be announced at a later stage.

Each qualifying school will be required to enter a team of 15 athletes to compete in various age groups. The athletes will show their prowess in sprints, middle-distance track events, open medley relays in various sprint distances, hurdles, long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot-put, discus and javelin.
