The City’s Water and Sanitation Department will be shutting down the Steenbras Water Treatment Plant from Monday 14 March until Friday 25 March, and have advised that residents in the higher-lying areas along the mountainside in Gordon’s Bay will experience reduced water pressure during this period.
This two-week shutdown will allow for maintenance to be conducted on various process units of the Steenbras Water Treatment Plant as per its maintenance schedule. This work forms part of the City’s pro-active maintenance programme for its bulk water infrastructure, which will ensure continued water supply to these areas.
Careful consideration has been given to the planning of the work to ensure minimal disruption to consumers in the area. Water from the Blackheath, Faure and Helderberg Water Treatment Plants will substitute the water supplied by the Steenbras Water Treatment Plant during the maintenance period.
Although no significant water supply disruptions are anticipated to result from this work, residents in the higher-lying areas along the mountainside in Gordon’s Bay are advised to use water sparingly over this period to reduce the strain on the water supply system while the scheduled maintenance work is under way.
Reducing water consumption will help reduce the impact on communities in these areas.
The City regrets any inconvenience caused, but it is imperative that it maintains its water treatment infrastructure to benefit its consumers.
