At the age of 62, avid swimmer Simon Ince (left) became the oldest person to successfully complete the gruelling endurance False Bay Crossing in February earlier this year. He commendably finished the 34 km swim from Miller’s Point near Simon’s Town to Rooiels in a time of 10 hours and 42 minutes on Sunday 20 February (“Age no barrier for keen swimmer,” DistrictMail, Thursday 24 February 2022). And this feat very well earned the Somerset West local a mention in the Guinness World Records, along with the fact that he is only the eighth person to stroke his way across the bay. Pictured with the now official record holder is his proud uncle Tickey Ince, holding up his nephew’s Guinness World Records certificate, which is regarded the official seal of his status and confirmation of his place in history.
