Lwandle police are investigating a murder after a young man was killed in a fatal shooting incident earlier this week.
According to provincial police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk, local police officers were called to action in response to an incident that occurred on the corner of Nobuhle and Nonkqubela streets around 07:20 on Monday (6 June). The 25-year-old victim was shot and fatally wounded.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation and the motive is unknown,” said Van Wyk.
The deceased was identified as Steven Sithole, a Lwandle resident.
The police called on anyone with information that could aid the investigation to contact the Lwandle Police Station on 021 845 2060.
Lwandle police are also requesting the assistance of the public with information in connection with two separate murder incidents in recent months.
The community is being called on for any leads to track down the suspects involved as well as information to locate the families of the two men who were claimed in the respective shooting incidents in the Lwandle policing precinct.
In the first incident, the deceased was shot in the head in Lwandle by an unidentified suspect on Sunday 8 May, around 18:00. He was admitted to a nearby hospital and later transferred to Tygerberg Hospital, where he succumbed to his serious wounds. The deceased is believed to be in his early 30s.
In another incident, the body of an unknown man, believed to be in his 40s, was found with gunshot wounds in a ditch behind the Chris Hani informal settlement in Asanda Village around 19:45 on Tuesday 12 April.
In both incidents cases of murder were opened and are being investigated by Lwandle police detectives.
At this stage, the motive in both killings are also still unknown.
