With just days to go before the start of the 2022-’23 club cricket season, Hottentots Holland Cricket Club (HHCC) played three warm-up 20-over matches against Strand Cricket Club (SCC) and a match against Rylands CC at Radloff Park in Somerset West at the weekend.
HHCC won all four fixtures and are pleased with the players’ batting and bowling performances, giving credit to Naeem Rhoda for his knock of 73 and Mieftaah Oliver, who scored 49 and returned bowling figures of 3/9.
Other stand-out players looking in fine form are Shameel Abels, who also bagged three wickets, and Irshaad Salie who scored 50.
“The boys have had a good pre-season, putting in the hard yards regularly. We are looking forward to a successful season where we will compete in all fronts,” said captain Wahid Martin.
SCC chairperson Isador Armien thanked HHCC for their sportsmanship and wished the club well for the upcoming season. “Our preparation is going as planned. The numbers are picking up for the men’s and women’s teams. The juniors will start in January, as their season runs parallel with the school year,” he commented.
The Western Province club cricket season starts with the AMA 20/20 tournament this weekend.
