Somerset West police are requesting the public’s assistance after a hitchhiker was robbed on the N2 close to the area.

According to police the incident occurred on Friday 17 March, at 15:50, when a man on the roadside seeking a lift to Grabouw managed to get a white Mercedes-Benz to stop. The driver told him he was heading in that direction too.

Sergeant Suzan Jantjies, spokesperson for Somerset West police, related that after the victim got into the vehicle the driver stopped it on a gravel road a short distance away, off the N2, close to Monkey Town.

“Three males then threatened the victim and robbed him of his money, cellphone and clothes,” she said. “No arrests have been made.”

The police requested anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward or contact Detective Sergeant Wayne Henderson of the Somerset West police on 021 850 1302.

“This is the fourth incident currently under investigation, and in all cases the same three male suspects have been mentioned,” said Jantjies.

“Police are looking for anyone who can assist with information that can lead to the arrest of these suspects.”
