Subcouncil 8 chairperson and Ward 85 councillor Chantal Cerfontein in conjunction with the City’s Urban Waste Management embarked on an Anti-Dumping Awareness Campaign in Rusthof, Weltevreden and Onverwacht on Thursday6 April.
According to Cerfontein the purpose of this campaign is to curb the illegal dumping on open spaces and in the canals.
“As ward councillor and subcouncil chairperson I will never stop educating our local communities on the harm and health risks posed by illegal dumping. Dumping in our play parks is unacceptable for now we sit with a situation where our kids play in the rubble.”
She mentioned that they embarked on this journey two weeks ago in the Helderberg and it forms part of a basket of services presented at the Charles Morkel stadium last week.
“If residents have backyarders, they may apply for an extra wheelie-bin at the Strand Municipal building. We have various projects including the recycling and compost projects currently running. However, I must mention that Strong schools are running like clockwork getting the schools involved and ensuring school grounds and surrounds remain clean. The Rusthof Safe and Clean have also been keeping their finger on the pulse and they have reported many incidents whereby many have been brought to book.”
She urges people to take ownership of their surrounds, where they live and make their areas attractive and welcoming.
