Strand: The University of the Third Age (U3A) Helderberg holds its monthly meet at the Strand Town Hall at 10:00. Captain Freddie Ligthelm, the ice pilot aboard the SA Agulhas II, will address U3A members and other interested parties all about finding the iconic wreck of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s ill-fated ship, Endurance, which was crushed by pack ice and sank beneath the frozen wastes of the Weddell Sea in 1915, 107 years after it disappeared. Ligthelm will tell of his experiences during the 2019 and 2022 expeditions to look for and eventually locate Endurance in the Weddell Sea.
