As a long-standing Somerset West resident it is good to note the positive changes taking place in Main Road.
I applaud the redevelopment/upgrade of the Alexandra Hotel and adjacent property into Alexandra Centre, and am interested to know who is moving into this valuable space?
Rumour had it that it was going to be an OK store. Not sure if that is still on the cards?
Once the new transport interchange is complete it will have a very positive impact on the lower end of the Main Road, now we just need Michael’s Arcade to come to the party!
Keep up the good work!Terry Gale, Email
Somerset West City Revival responds:
“The deal with the OK has fallen through as far as we know. The developer who has done the Alexandra and the old mini market has bought up a large portion of buildings in Somerset West. Michael’s Arcade is being turned into a medical centre and belongs to the owner of Lion Square and Rola Motors. Flora Chang is the owner of a few buildings in Somerset West too. She owns the Avenues and started the changes to that building.
The Village Walk is also going to be fixed up soon with the old hotel (that KFC on Main Road is in) is a heritage building that is going to be fixed up and will be a big part of our Art Route”.
