Donors and staff gathered at Helderberg Hospice on a beautiful autumn morning on Thursday 4 May to open its new storage area officially.

The major donor of this project was the Helderberg Sunrise Rotary Club, which Helderberg Hospice would like to thank for their valuable support. The community-based organisation would also like to acknowledge and thank other contributors to this project, namely CSV Construction, Almar Containers, Rigrite, Somerset Sand & Stone and Butch Judge.

The revamped storage area will enable Helderberg Hospice to store hospital beds donated to the organisation by Cure Day Hospital in Paardevlei safely and securely.

“We gift the short-term use of a hospital bed to those of our patients in need of one in their home,” a hospice press release said. “We store, sanitise and deliver to patients as they need these, and once the patient no longer requires the use of the bed it is collected sanitised and stored for the next patient who may need it.

“Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to ensure we can provide the comfort, cleanliness and convenience of a proper hospital bed for our patients, in this way making a significant improvement to their quality of life.”
