It’s the final weekend of the Lourensford annual summer market. The last market of the season takes place on Friday (26 May) from 17:00 to 21:00, Saturday between 11:00 to 16:00 and Sunday from 10:00 to 15:00. Live entertainment on the programme includes performances by Takura Terry at 18:00 on Friday, Wren Hinds at 12:00 on Saturday and the Graham Burton Trio at 12:00 on Sunday. FRIDAY 26 MAY

Somerset West: A sassy musical variety show with numbers from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Chicago, Moulin Rouge, Mama Mia, Burlesque, Tina, Priscilla Queen of the Desert and more is on at The Playhouse Theatre tonight (Friday 26 May) and tomorrow (Saturday). Audiences can look forward to a fun night out as in-house singers and dancers get ready to enthral with the musical delight Show Me How You Burlesque! at 19:30 on both nights. The shows also takes place at 19:30 from Thursday 1 until Saturday 10 June, with Saturday shows at 15:00 and 19:30. The bar will be open before and after the show. No people under age 16 are allowed. Somerset West: The Gabriella Centre, a 24-hour residential and holistic therapeutic educational care facility for children and young adults with cerebral palsy, celebrates its silver jubilee with a fundraiser featuring acclaimed comedian Barry Hilton at the Somerset West Country Club at 18:00 for 18:30. Locals can look forward to an amazing evening filled with hysterical laughter, but also an opportunity to learn more about the facility. Furthermore, the local coffee shop Sage & Thyme is donating R2 for every hot beverage purchased during the month of May. The funds raised will be used to purchase incontinence products for the young beneficiaries who are dependent on the much-needed toiletry items.

Strand: The University of the Third Age (U3A) Helderberg meets at the Strand Town Hall for an informative presentation entitled The Power of Your Story by Dr Garth Japhet at 10:00 on Wednesday 7 June. Japhet will be sharing how he has used the power of story to shape his own life and to influence the lives of others for the better. Japhet is the CEO of Heartlines, an non-profit organisation that initiates large scale social change campaigns using feature films and TV series as a catalyst for training and community mobilisation to tackle society’s big issues, most recently the promotion of social connectedness. Trained as a physician with a specialty in maternal/child health, he previously co-created the pioneering multimedia edutainment platform, Soul City, which has reached over 50 million people in 10 southern African countries through entertainment programming, community mobilization and advocacy.
